There are several festivals and occasions in this month starting from:

12 January: Celebrated as National Youth Day, 12th January is celebrated in honour of Swami Vivekananand. Vivekanand became delegate of Hinduism in Chicago Parliament of Religions.

23 January: This day marks the birth of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Bose coined the slogan ‘Jai Hind’. He also raised the freedom struggle army titled Azad Hind Fauz. This day is celebrated as National Patriotism day.

13th February(Mahashivratri) : This day is very important for Hindu from spiritual aspect. On this day Hindu devotees offer flowers to worship Lord Shiva and perform rituals for worshiping the Lord.

2 March(Holi): Indians celebrate this day of colours with joy and fervour. They also prepare sweets.

29 March(Mahavir Jayanti): This day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira Jain, the founder of Jainism.

30 April(Buddh Purnia): This day is celebrated to offer reverence to Lord Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

14th July(Rath Yatra): This day is celebrated by Hindu Devotees. They worship Lord Jagannath and attend chariot processions.

15th August(Independence Day): On this special day India got freedom from imperial rule of British rule. The Indian Prime minister addresses the nation from Red Fort on this day.

2nd September(Janmashtami): On this day, Hindu devotees celebrate birthday of Lord Krishna. They offer prayers and design jhankis or models displaying significant events in the story of Lord Krishna.

21st September(Muharram): This day is special event for Muslim devotees.

17th October: This day marks Maha ashtami, the eight day of Durga Puja and is celebrated all over India with zest and fervour. Devotees offer prayer to the Goddess, who represents victory of good over evil.

19th October(Dusshera): This day marks the tenth day of Durga Puja. This day also marks victory of Lord Ram over Ravana in the battlefield.

7th November(Dipawali): This day is celebrated in remembrance of the return of Lord Rama with Laxman and Sita to Ayodhya, after an exile of 14 years.

23 November( Guru Nanak Jayanti): This day marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. It is celebrated with huge zest by Sikh devotees.

25 December(Christmas Day): This day is celebrated with merry and enthusiasm by Christian devotees. Devotees offer prayers and sing Christmas carols to mark the occasion.
